A new 89mm diameter gold-layered coin commemorates the 65th Anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s Coronation, but only 999 will be minted! Exclusive to The Bradford Exchange – On 2nd June 1953, Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor was crowned Queen Elizabeth II. The Coronation ceremony was the first ever to be televised, giving royal watchers around the world a glimpse inside the pageantry and tradition of this historic event. More than 8,000 guests, including foreign royalty and several heads of state, attended the Westminster Abbey ceremony. Although she was only 27 years of age, she was crowned with grace and dignity, prepared to shoulder the immense responsibilities of her position as the Head of State of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms. In the 65 years that have followed, the United Kingdom’s longest-living monarch has become the most popular royal figure of all time.
To honour the occasion of the 65th Anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s Coronation, The Commonwealth Mint has struck an ultra-rare ten crown coin. There could be no more fitting tribute to this auspicious event. In 1953, the Royal Mint issued the legendary Queen Elizabeth II Coronation Medal as well as medallions to celebrate the occasion. Our new ten crown joins with these royal keepsakes to capture the spectacle of the very day the world rejoiced at the start of the new Elizabethan age.
Our exclusive ‘65th Anniversary Coronation Ten Crowns’ brings to the fore the symbols of this most sacred of royal institutions. The design focuses on a profile of Her Majesty in her regalia worn by the Queen as she left Westminster Abbey and greeted the world as a crowned monarch. Surrounding Her Majesty are the four shields of the nations which comprise the United Kingdom along with their national flowers. Clockwise from right, Northern Ireland featuring the shamrock; Wales and the leek united with the Tudor rose. England and its Tudor rose follows and finally, Scotland proudly shows its thistle. The date of the Coronation and the Anniversary are cast along with the words: ‘God Bless the Queen’ spoken by the assembled crowd at the Abbey in homage to their newly-crowned Queen. The Imperial State Crown is reproduced in lustrous enamel, at the top of the issue, capped with genuine Swarovski® crystal. The Latin phrase: ‘Vivat Regina’ (Long live the Queen) unfurls through the crown. It is a sentiment that has been echoed throughout Her Majesty’s 65 years of service and dedication to each one of us.
In the annals of crown coin mintage, the ten crown coin is extremely rare and therefore equally coveted. Bearing Her Majesty’s effigy and the approval of Buckingham Palace, elevates the ten crown to an even higher standing with numismatists and history enthusiasts alike. At 89mm in diameter (the length of an average index finger) and weighing 283 grams, coins of such proportions are struck to mark occasions of great importance. Minted to Proof standards, the highest possible quality, it is entirely layered with pure 24-carat gold to create a coin that is simply without parallel. The technical complexities of striking at such a large diameter ensures that the worldwide mintage has been set remarkably low, at just 999. This means that each one of these limited edition crowns has a rarity value in addition to its collectability, which would usually push the release price too high for most people.
Each 24-carat gold-layered coin comes complete with an informative Certificate of Authenticity and a bespoke presentation box in which to store and display your coin – completely FREE.
