The first-ever Silver Crown Coin to feature double-sided portraits of HM Queen Elizabeth II

This year Her Majesty The Queen celebrated her Sapphire Coronation Jubilee – the only monarch in British history ever to do so. It is yet another milestone in the reign of our remarkable longest-ever reigning monarch. To celebrate a unique coin was issued: an impressive 925 silver one crown coin, with rich blue enamel and 24-carat gold-plating.

Following in the tradition of Jubilee coinage, set during the reign of Queen Victoria the 2018 Sapphire Coronation Portraits Silver Crown is a world-first silver coin featuring a double-sided effigy of HM Queen Elizabeth II. This is the first time a silver coin has been minted depicting the queen’s effigies in this way. The cameo portrait is struck in relief against the lustrous backdrop of sapphire blue enamelling, chosen to match the anniversary that this coin celebrates. Surrounding the portrait is a garter design reminiscent of the Queen’s Badge of The Order of the Garter.

This world-first coin beautifully portrays our Queen, then and now. The exceptional obverse effigy is the work of Commonwealth coin designer Joel Iskowitz. It shows a refined and mature Queen as she is today, wearing the royal diadem. The reverse ‘young’ effigy of the Queen is inspired by the portrait that appeared on the first coins of Her Majesty’s reign in 1953. Fittingly the design of the Sapphire Coronation Jubilee Portrait Coin combines the royal portrait with an inscribed garter. Most often associated with gold sovereigns, the garter featured the inscription: ONE CROWN MCMLIII ELIZABETH II DEI GRA REG FID DEF 'Reigning by the grace of God, Defender of the Faith'.

Only 2,018 coins were struck on the day – the mintage limit a unique nod to the year of the Queen's Sapphire Coronation Jubilee.

Each edition is uniquely numbered and the earliest orders will receive the lowest numbered coins. Orders will be processed in strict order of receipt.

This offer is limited to one coin per household. Each coin is backed by our 14-day returns guarantee.
