Depicting a specially commissioned portrait of the Queen

With a dual portrait design, the coin features on its reverse a specially commissioned design of Her Majesty at the time of her Accession, 70 years ago – inspired by the first ‘Gillick’ coinage designs of the Queen’s reign showing a laurel wreath on Her Majesty’s head. The obverse shows a respectful and contemporary portrait of our dignified Head of State as she celebrates her Platinum Jubilee. This is the first time these two portraits have been used on a Platinum Quarter Sovereign.
